Last week on our way home from an FFA event, some of my officers and I were talking about everything that scared us. Some of the topics that came up were clowns, outer space, and house break-ins. So much of what we talked about were random scenarios that weren’t likely to happen. Along with the fears of people or things, we talked about their graduation that is approaching and the apprehension of figuring out what college to go to and what career path to make. Along with these kids who are very ambitious and will be successful in whatever they do, most of us do have one common fear: the future.
“She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25
None of us can predict what will happen in a year from now let alone tomorrow. We can plan and scope out everything, but we will never know those unforeseen circumstances that can get in the way of the story we are writing for ourselves. So many of us do plan everything out, but still fear and worry and have anxiety. The point is, instead of overthinking and feeling the emotion of fear, we need to trust in God because He is the ultimate author.
“Don’t be afraid, just believe.” Mark 5:36
The phrase, “Do not be afraid,” is written in the Bible 365 times. That’s a daily reminder from God to live everyday fearless. When we become fearless, life becomes limitless. Instead of worrying, we are trusting in Him. Not having fear is something that is easier said than done. A lot of the silliest things start to bother me, but then I remind myself to go to Him with my problems instead of thinking I can face them on my own.
“I will not be afraid because the Lord is with me.” Psalm 118:6
When I start to feel fear, I read passages from His word, journal, write these posts, and pray. When I feel God’s presence, my fear dissolves. We must let our faith be bigger than our fear. Our faith comes straight from His love. If we remember how much He loves us, we know how much he cares for us. Everything He has planned for us is for a purpose even if we don’t see it at the time.
“There is no fear in love. Perfect love casts out all fear.” 1 John 4:13
Instead of being scared of what is yet to come, truly look forward to the days ahead. Know that God will be with us always and that we can trust His plan. Demonstrate courage to others and encourage them to not have fear. Be daring and fearless and strong but most importantly, don’t lose Jesus in the midst of it. Face those fears hand in hand with God and live every day for Him.
“Be bold. Be brave. Be courageous.” Joshua 1:9
