Recently, Sadie Robertson posted a video telling her fans “what it means to be a Christian.” As I was watching this, I felt inspired and encouraged to speak about my own faith and what it means to me. Sadie is such a blessing to this generation of girls growing up and I admire her so much. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBEdW4ZlUfU)
What it means to me to be a Christian:
Being a Christian means that I am a light to the world. God is shining through me and my everyday actions. I know I am not perfect, but I am striving to be my best all for the glory of Him.
Being a Christian means that I love others. God showed us the ultimate action of love by sending His son Jesus Christ to save us. I cannot imagine seeing anyone I know go through what Jesus did on the cross, let alone MY SON. That means He loves us more than we can ever fathom. Because of this, I show love and compassion to all people no matter what their background is. I try my hardest not to judge others because I have no idea what they could be going through. I want to be an approachable person with a positive personality because even though I might not go up to every single person I see and tell them, “Hey, I love you,” I want them to at least see me as a friend or someone they can go to.
Being a Christian means that I pray. I pray when I’m driving, when I’m reading my Bible, when I’m feeling sad, when I’m feeling happy… I pray for myself to be a better person. I pray for those around the world that are hungry. I pray for our country and our leaders. I pray for my friends, family, boyfriend, and anyone that pops into my head. I feel His comfort when I pray and I am building a relationship with Him that gets stronger and stronger every day. I also must remember that praying is a 2 way conversation so I must listen to Him.
Being a Christian means that I forgive. In my life, I have been super blessed. I have never been in a situation where I held a grudge against someone; however, I have to remind myself to not get caught up in silly things that might make me mad. Every single day, we all sin and do things that He doesn’t like, but because He has an unending amount of loving kindness, He forgives us! He makes it seem so easy when really it isn’t… but I try my best to forgive and let go, and let God.
Being a Christian means that I give thanks. Even on a cloudy day when I spilled food on my shirt and I am about to take a test, I want to give thanks to Him for providing me with food to eat and for the education I am receiving. Sometimes I feel like I just give all my problems to God and then I sit back and think about it and realize that I haven't thanked him yet! I am thankful for my Christian roots where I have my grandparents and parents to look up to. I am thankful for a house to live in and food to eat. I am thankful for my family and friends for always supporting me. Most importantly, I am thankful for Him. He cares for me, watches out for me, knows everything about me and still LOVES me.
Being a Christian means that I am His. He is the shepherd, and I am here on Earth being his sheep. It blows my mind that out of the billions of people, He knows me! He knows every single hair on my head and every thought that I have. He is powerful and I want to teach others about the good news that He has for any person who is willing to accept Him. I AM HIS. He created me, He watches me, and He has a plan for me. Being a Christian means that I must trust in my Lord always and love Him with all of my heart, mind and soul. If God is for me, who can be against me?
